Keep Lipstick Plant moderately snug and move up only 1–2 inches after roots fill the pot. Long flowering stems create visual volume, but this epiphytic plant does not need a matching mass of dense soil.

Choose the pot from the root ball, not the length of the vines. Move up about 1–2 inches when roots fill the container, then decide separately whether to train tendrils upward or let stems trail.

Use a modest pot about 1–2 inches wider than the rhizome and root mass. Its patterned leaves can form a broad display, but the roots do not benefit from a deep reservoir of unused wet mix.
